Today at school we had a Veteran's Day Memorial Service and it ended up going really, really good. Actually, this one guy came and Mom told me that he was one(out of many) of Suzanne's x-boyfriends.hehe When he saw me he thought I was one of my mom's sisters....so he was probably like OMGoodness SUZANNE! lol Just kidding :) Anyways, I had to write an essay/speech sort of thing and I was so nervous! I think everyone at school thinks I'm a really good talker. I know I'm good at talking when I'm just blabbin, but when it comes to serious stuff I'm not that good.....I think I'm improving though. I've been getting some practice so maybe I'll get better. Seriously ya'll.....I'm gonna be the next Sarah Palin!! haha
I thought I would post my essay in case any of ya'll were interested.(which I highly doubt) Anyways, I don't feel too good so I'm gonna hurry up and try to get in bed a little earlier tonight. Buh-bye...
Each year at this time we pause to pay a special tribute to all soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines, dead or alive, whether their service was during war time or a time of peace. We, as Americans, enjoy life, liberty , and the pursuit of happiness simply because brave, self sacrificing men and women made choice to serve in order to promote these inalienable rights. To all of these I render thanks and honor.
The roots of this great day can be traced back to November 11, 1918 when ironically at 11 AM World War I came to an end. However, it was not until 1954 during the administrating of President Dwight D. Eisenhower that the name " Veterans day" was assigned. From our infancy unto this day, this great country has surrendered its bravest to liberate the oppressed and ensure freedom for its citizens and future generations. Over the past 200 plus years, countless battle lines have been drawn and an untold amount of blood spilled on U.S. soil and foreign lands, in a prevailing effort to preserve our freedom.
If we were to travel across this land today we would behold many sights which would live on in our memory. From boys and girls waving little flags, to watching our President place a wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier, as has been the practice since 1921. From Moms and Dads remembering that son or daughter who paid the ultimate price, to schools, like ours, where we have the privilege to be in the company of these modern day heroes.
It has often been said, "blood bought our freedom" and a truer statement has never been spoken. Which brings to mind another battlefield, another man who made choice to serve and lay down his life so others may go free. As the Lord Jesus spoke the words of John 15:13 " Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends". Those around may not have fully comprehended the depth of His saying, but I stand here today, "in the liberty where Christ makes free", because of the ultimate price paid on the cross of Calvary.
So, Today I give thanks first to God for the gift of His Son Jesus who died and resurrected that I may be free. I also want every person who has surrendered themselves , left home and family behind, and have went wherever duty called , some never to return, to know that on this Veterans Day from my heart I say thank you and may God bless you.
